Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
I was born on Vancouver Island but have lived from PEI to the west coast as well as four different countries.

What made you want to own a kayaking business and be a guide?
I bought Bowen Island Sea Kayaking in 2014 and have loved every minute of the challenge 🙂 I couldn’t run this without amazing support from fantastic staff but what I really love is meeting guests from all over the world and sharing a little bit of the beauty of Howe Sound.

What are you most looking forward to about the 2021 season?
Let’s not kid ourselves – it’s nice to have 2020 in the rear view mirror. I’m hoping that with vaccine rollouts and ongoing covid protocols we will see this pandemic come to an end sooner rather than later. I love that locals are getting to know their own backyard a bit better, but I’m really looking forward to waves of international travellers, if not in 2021, then definitely next year!

What is one fun or interesting thing you’re always on the lookout for when you’re on the water?
I’m always on the lookout for a dorsel fin or a spout of water out of a blowhole. Whales, including orcas (who are actually the largest members of the dolphin family), humpbacks and the occasional grey are visiting us with more and more frequency which is awesome to see. But a big sea lion, a seal or a porpoise is always fun to see swimming around, as is an eagle swooping down to catch some lunch. I love picking up a moon jelly for a guest to hold or plucking a sea star off a rock for a moment of gentle inspection.

What is one piece of advice you want to share with our guests?
Come prepared! The website has a great list of things to bring but jeans and hiking boots are not among them. Whether you’re going out on your own or on one of our awesome tours, never hesitate to call in advance with questions regarding weather and water conditions. We’re always here with helpful answers.
