Sea kayak level 1 sKills

This is a 2 day course that moves participants beyond flatwater kayaking into the sport of sea kayaking.  15+ years.

Time: 9.00am-5.30pm (both days).

Price:  $394

Prerequisites: Paddle Canada BASIC Kayak Skills Certification or equivalent skills and knowledge, at the discretion of the course instructor.

What to bring:

  • Wetsuit/drysuit (we have some available if needed)
  • Neoprene booties or water shoes
  • Towel
  • Change of warm clothing 
  • Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen
  • Lunch, water, snacks

Learn the skills to safely plan and execute a day trip with friends.  

This course also follows a development pathway for those interested in sea kayak guiding.  On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded with Paddle Canada Level 1 Skills Certification.

This is a comprehensive course, conducted on slightly rougher water than PC Basic Kayak Skills, with an aim to build confidence, understand the impact of weather conditions and conduct a risk assessment before heading out on excursions.  Skills covered include:

  • Unassisted re-entry
  • Towing
  • Launching and landing
  • Forward, reverse, sweep and draw strokes
  • Stern rudder
  • Edge control
  • Safety equipment and injury prevention
  • Transport Canada regulations
  • Navigation
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
